Hyperhidrosis Treatment

Excessive sweating is a medical condition, not a hygiene problem, and in the Gulf climate it can be disabling — ruined shirts, avoided handshakes, changed clothing twice a day. Injectable treatment blocks the nerve signal telling the sweat glands to fire.

What it treats

Primary hyperhidrosis of the underarms, palms and soles. Underarms respond most reliably and are the most commonly treated area. Palms respond well but the injections are more uncomfortable and usually need local anaesthetic.

How it is done

The overactive area is mapped first, then treated with a grid of small superficial injections. Underarms take about twenty minutes. Palms take longer and are done with anaesthetic. There is no incision and nothing is removed.

Results and timing

Sweating reduces from around day four and stops almost entirely by two weeks. Most patients get six to nine months from a single treatment — considerably longer than the same treatment lasts on facial lines. Many people time it for the start of summer.

Common questions

Will I sweat more somewhere else instead?

Significant compensatory sweating elsewhere is uncommon with injectable treatment, unlike surgical nerve procedures where it is a recognised problem. The body has many sweat glands and treating the underarms removes only a small fraction of them.

Does my body need to sweat there?

Not in any meaningful way. Sweating serves temperature regulation, and the underarms contribute very little to it overall; your body continues to cool itself through the rest of the skin.
