PRP Hair Loss Treatment

PRP uses your own blood. A sample is spun to concentrate the platelets, which carry growth factors, and that concentrate is injected into the scalp. The growth factors prolong the active growth phase of the follicle and improve the blood supply around it.

What it treats

Androgenetic hair loss — male and female pattern thinning — in follicles that are miniaturising but still alive. It also helps diffuse shedding and can support recovery after telogen effluvium. It cannot regrow hair where the follicle is gone, which is why early treatment matters far more than intensive treatment.

How it is done

Blood is drawn, spun for around ten minutes, then injected across the thinning scalp in a grid of small injections. Topical anaesthetic or cooling is used. The whole appointment is about forty-five minutes. A course is typically three to four sessions a month apart, then maintenance every four to six months.

Results and timing

Shedding usually reduces first, within four to six weeks. Visible density change takes three to six months. Results are maintained only with ongoing treatment — stopping means gradual return to the previous trajectory.

Common questions

Does PRP actually work for hair loss?

For the right patient, yes — the evidence for androgenetic hair loss is reasonable. For the wrong patient, it does nothing. Proper diagnosis of the cause of the hair loss comes first, and sometimes the honest answer is that medication or a transplant is the better route.

Can I combine it with other treatments?

Yes, and it usually works better that way, alongside medical treatment. PRP is rarely the whole answer on its own.
